Let’s talk acoustic guitar tone for a second… While we all know the vibrating “top” of the guitar is the main influence of tone, the wood used in the construction of the back and sides adds tonal flavor as well. 

If you’re not familiar with Ovangkol as a tonewood, you’re missing out. Ovangkol, also known as Amazakoue, is a lesser-known tonewood that has gained popularity in recent years due to its tonal qualities and affordability compared to traditional tonewoods like rosewood and mahogany. Ovangkol typically exhibits a balanced tonal response with pronounced midrange frequencies. Its sound can be described as warm, with clear highs and a focused low end.

The Kepma Elite Series GA2-150 & GA2-151 (and “A” model - same guitars but with the Kepma AcoustiFex™ Pickup system) are amazingly beautiful instruments. The design is based on our flagship GA2-120 Spruce/Rosewood model. The main difference is the use of Ovangkol as the tonewood for the back & sides, and the inlays on the fretboard and headstock.

The GA2-150A is a grand auditorium body shape cutaway guitar that features a solid AA+ Alaskan spruce top and layered Ovangkol back & side construction. It provides you with an amazing level of “playability” with an “electric-like” action, perfect neck setup with the Plek™ system, impeccable high-precision build and a warm, midrange-rich yet balanced sound. The Grand Auditorium body shape is designed to provide you with a perfectly balanced acoustic sound — full frequency reproduction and articulation with every note — and access to the higher registers for the ultimate player’s stage guitar. And as with all Kepma Elite Series guitars, the GA2-150 & GA2151 have been PLEK fretboard dressed and leveled, and vibrated for over 300 hours (the “playing” equivalent of over a year) which settles the instrument and provides a warm rich tone and stable performance.

The GA2-150A and the GA2-151A feature the Kepma AcoustiFex system that gives you amazing Reverb, Chorus or Delay effects while you’re just sitting around playing (NOT plugged into any amplification device), and also provides those effects combined with a piezo undersaddle pickup system and onboard condenser microphone with level control when plugged into an amp or mixing console. This revolutionary combination of elements makes them come alive in a way you’ve never heard before — truly stunning balanced rich acoustic tone and effects with total control right at your fingertips.
